Beer of the month – May 2017, by Jake Overton
Verdant Brewing Co. from Falmouth, Cornwall, have quickly become one of the most talked about breweries in the UK, producing high quality, juicy, North East America style IPA’s.
And our choice of ‘beer of the month’ for May is their very own Putty DIPA 7%, a double india pale ale, which Verdant say is the hoppiest beer they have ever produced.
The Look: Small tight white head with a super hazy light orange body. Looks like fruit juice in the glass.
The Aroma: It’s like falling face first into a bowl of tropical fruit, with some big mango and peach notes coming through. A more subtle mint and pine needle aroma rounds the whole thing off.
The Taste: The flavours follow on from the aroma. Huge tropical and light stone fruits hide the 8% abv and the beer is balanced out by a hint of oat biscuit from the malts. The low bitterness and a chewy mouthfeel make this beer a real joy to drink.
Putty is a limited spring release so it’s not the easiest beer to get hold of, but Verdants core range of beers are fantastic if you cannot find this particular one.
